A Melody #1

I write in bits and pieces pretty sporadically but if I actually remember it the next day or even an hour later - great.
If not? It probably wasn’t good enough in the first place.

Here’s today’s.

Spring! Writing, Recording, Opening for Mike Viola, Oh No Oh My

Well hello!

It’s been a while and I’m psyched to announce we’re playing with Mike Viola on April 2, here in Boston.  As everyone probably knows, I might be (one of) the biggest MV fans out there and we’ve been in the same circles of musicians for a few years now since I saw him play with Bleu back in 2007 & I was HOOKED and have always wanted to share a bill with the guy.

Musically, he’s up there in the pop genius territory but with far more personal and honest lyrics, which have  inspired me to get outside the constraints of hiding behind vague and open-ended metaphors and capture an real vibe instead of something “perfect”  (i.e as sterile as a hospital or a Steely Dan record).  This is a goal for the new LP. Real sounds. Not a ton of studio trickery. Recording in my living room, stairwells, bathrooms, attics – whatever and wherever. Lots of ups and downs recently on a personal and musical level but it’s inspiring to say the least.

Also inspiring are the two new AMAZING Oranjuly-ers (yeah I said it) , Kyle Fredrickson (of The Everyday Visuals) and Aaron Benson (of Thick as Thieves & mixed/engineered our record that you love and plan on buying multiple copies of!)

I’ve been a superfan of both of these guys’ respective bands for a long time and it’s like a dream team to have them aboard. Lots of collaboration and positivity. Rehearsals are FUN (for me at least). No egos. Better shows. Better vibes than ever before. Those are hints to come see our shows so we can make our next record sound FANTASTIC and better than anything we’ve done. Keep listening. Lots of awesome stuff in the works. Spread the word.

On top of opening for Mike Viola we have the pleasure of opening for Oh No Oh My, who are reallllllllly great and are on a big U.S. tour at the moment.

Come see us. Say hi. We’ll even GIVE you our album FOR FREE!!!! Here’s a short clip of a new song we’re working out in rehearsals. The video quality is as dark as the song.

How we beat out Apples in Stereo (their new one is their best yet!!) & the Gin Blossoms is a mystery. Well, not so much on the Gin Blossoms…

Still writing/recording new tunes constantly. Hibernating, growing “record beards.”

The few songs written/semi-recorded for album two already trump anything we’ve done yet, so stay tuned,  come see our shows (Jan 29th Lizard Lounge, Feb 12 Rosebud in Davis Sq., and Middle East Upstairs last weekend in March) w/our NEW lineup of class act fellers and lady so say hi!! Don’t be scurrred.
Tell your friends, and spread the word (see below). We want to tour in 2011 somehow so we’ll need your support!
